When is the best time to visit Morocco?

Morocco is several climates at once. The right month depends less on the country than on which part of it you want to see.

Season by season

Spring (March to May). The safest choice. Warm days, cool evenings, green valleys and comfortable walking weather everywhere from Chefchaouen to the dunes.

Summer (June to August). Hot inland. Excellent on the Atlantic coast, where Essaouira and Agadir stay breezy. Riad prices often soften in Marrakech.

Autumn (September to November). Arguably the best light of the year, and the desert is at its most pleasant. Fewer crowds than spring.

Winter (December to February). Bright days in the south, snow in the High Atlas, and cold desert nights. Good for city breaks and for travellers who dislike heat.

By region

• Marrakech and the south: avoid peak summer midday if you can
• The coast: comfortable almost year round
• The Sahara: spring and autumn for the nights
• The Atlas: late spring for trekking, winter for snow

One practical note

Ramadan shifts opening hours and the rhythm of the day. It moves roughly eleven days earlier each year, so it falls in a different season depending on when you travel. It is a beautiful time to be in Morocco and the evenings come alive after sunset, but it is worth planning around. Tell us your travel year and we will confirm the dates and build the days accordingly.

If you only have one week and no fixed month, take spring or autumn and base yourself in Marrakech. The variety comes from day trips rather than from moving hotels.
